Press ‘Next Stage’ to go to ‘Warm-up, Current’ for Protocol 2. (yellow dot will be
flashing under this stage).
Continue this sequence as listed above to confirm speed and grade for all protocols 1
through 8. There are 16 settings to check for each protocol.
When all settings are confirmed with the settings on the table, press ‘Enter’ to save the
settings.
Simultaneously press Stop Belt, Cool Down, and Start Course, then release them to
exit the programming mode.
Check that this was completed in the weekly Quality Control Log on the Integrated
Survey Information System (ISIS). (Section 1.3 provides a brief explanation of ISIS,
the data entry system that is used for this study.)
Colin STBP-780 Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor
The Colin STBP-780 is an automated electronic heart rate and blood pressure (BP) monitor
capable of accurate readings at rest and during exercise. See Figure 2-5. The unit assesses heart rate via
wires connected to four electrodes placed on the thorax and abdomen. Blood pressure is assessed during
deflation of the cuff via two microphones in the cuff. The front display provides clear, easy to read
measurements of heart rate, systolic and diastolic BP, elapsed time, and error messages. When turning the
system on, a Self-Check is performed automatically. If an error is detected, see Section 2.9.2.
The field for the systolic blood pressure at the top left corner of the blood pressure monitor
displays an estimate of systolic BP during deflation. This number flashes as the measurement is being
taken. Once the systolic and diastolic blood pressure and the heart rate are measured, all three values are
displayed on the monitor and downloaded to the computer screen and system database during the test.
