3.8.3 Selection of Cuff Size and Placement of Cuff

Figure 3-3. Site for placement of electrodes (2)

„ See Figure 3-3 above for position of cuff on arm.

„ The MEC physician will measure the arm to determine the appropriate cuff size and
will write the cuff size used on the shoulder or sleeve of the SP’s gown. The same size
cuff should be used for this exam.

„ Attach appropriately sized blood pressure cuff (child, adult, or large adult) on the arm
selected. The bladder of the cuff should be about two-thirds of the arm circumference.

„ Palpate for the brachial artery and position the cuff so that the two microphone
sensors are located directly over the brachial artery.

„ Position the cuff snugly around the upper arm, 1 inch above the antecubital space.

3.8.4 Room Temperature

Ideal room temperature for the treadmill test should be 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.

Perspiration on the skin will interfere with the adherence of the electrodes to the skin and higher

temperatures may increase the effort needed by the SP to perform the test.

The room temperature will be automatically recorded by integration with a Nimbus digital

thermometer. If integration fails, the room temperature will be entered manually by entering the

temperature reading on the digital thermometer. The room should be kept within the ideal temperature
