Cardiovascular Fitness Procedures Manual

(coco) #1

  • If the SP looks OK, does not ask to stop, and RPE is not greater than 17,
    continue with the test.

  • Continue to monitor very closely for signs of exhaustion and stop the test if the
SP’s symptoms warrant ending the test.

  • If the SP is not OK, the RPE is greater than 17, or the SP asks to stop, confirm
that the SP understands what he or she is rating. If he or she still gives a rating
of greater than 17, you go to the Recovery stage by pressing ‘Go to Recovery’
on the ISIS screen. See Section 3.1 3 .2 for detailed procedures.

„ During the third minute of Stage 2, if %HRmax is above 100 percent, then press ‘Go
to Recovery’ on the ISIS screen. See Section 3.13 for Stopping Procedures. Select
‘Other’ with comment ‘%HRmax > 100%’ for Priority 2 Stopping Criteria.

„ At 02:30 minutes into Stage 2, the system will give an auditory message:

“Get RPE assessment”

„ The technologist will ask the SP to give his or her rating of perceived exertion.

„ The technologist will enter this number.

„ The system will automatically set the BP monitor to start the BP measurement at
02:10 minutes into Stage 2. The end of Stage 2 BP and HR measurement will be
captured at approximately 02:40 to 0 2 :50 minutes into Stage 2.

„ The system will give the following auditory message:

“Check heart rate on monitor.”

„ The ISIS system will then display a visual message:

“Compare heart rate on blood pressure monitor with captured heart rate on ISIS
screen. Enter a manual heart rate ONLY if they differ by more than 5 beats.”

„ Note the heart rate on the blood pressure monitor and compare this number with the
captured heart rate on the ISIS screen. If the captured heart rate on the ISIS screen
does not differ by more than 5 beats from the heart rate on the BP monitor, click OK
and continue the test.

„ If the heart rate is not captured on the ISIS screen or the observed HR on the blood
pressure monitor is more than 5 beats from the captured heart rate, enter the observed
HR in the manual heart rate field on the ISIS screen.

„ Five seconds before the stage ends, all the LEDs in that column flash, warning that the
speed and grade will change soon.
