Press NEXT STAGE on the treadmill controller to get to Recovery for the current
protocol. Watch the markings on the controller carefully and do not go past the
desired setting. Press NEXT STAGE only once for this change.
The SP will continue to walk on the treadmill for 1-3 minutes and the system will
continue to monitor HR and BP at 1-minute intervals. The technologist may decide to
terminate the test at any time based on the SP’s condition.
When the Recovery Stages are completed, the system will give the following auditory
message:
“Press STOP on treadmill controller. Congratulations, you have completed the test.”
The system will go to Priority 2 Stopping Criteria at the end of Recovery.
Enter the appropriate response. Check all that apply.
After the Stopping Criteria have been entered, press NEXT STAGE to go to the
Component Status screen. The Status will be set to “Partial Complete” with the
comment “Priority 2 Stopping Criteria.”
Press the Finish button to exit this test.
3.14 Procedure to Recover/Restart an Exam
If the treadmill test has not gone past the first 15 seconds in Stage 1, you can restart the test.
This might occur in the following situations:
The SP is not used to walking on a treadmill and jumps off. The SP may be able to
continue the test if the instructions are repeated and the test is restarted;
If the treadmill controller advances or is mistakenly advanced by more than 1 stage
when Next Stage is pressed to move from Warm-up to Stage 1; or
Other problems selecting the protocol on the treadmill controller.
In these situations the treadmill test may be restarted. The restart procedures below are also
kept on the quick reference laminated cards in the CV Fitness room.
Press Cool Down and Stop Belt to stop the treadmill.
Confirm that the SP is willing to restart the treadmill test.
Tell the SP that you are going to repeat the instructions step by step.
