where furtherchangescan bemade. In Photoshopmore
preciseandaccurateeditingcanbeachieved,andthefiner
details of the face can be corrected and polished.


Manyportraitphotographershaveatendencytoover-edit
their portraits,and thesecanappear unrealand the skin
tonalityandtexturecantendtolookfake.Thekeytothe
editing really should be to enhance features rather than
changethefaceinanyway.Ideallytheskinshouldjustbe
clearedofblemishessuchasspotsandpimples,leavingthe
naturaltextureandtoneoftheskintoshinethrough.Spots
canbeeditedinbothCameraRAWandLightroomusing
thespotremovaltool.Howeverafiner,morecontrollable
editcanbeachievedinPhotoshopwhereavarietyoftools
suchas thepatchtool, thespothealing tool(J)and the
clonestamp(S)caneraseanynumberofblemisheswith
accuracy.


Eyes,beingthemostexpressivepartoftheface,shouldbe
handledwithcarewhenediting. Theywillcommonlybe
thefocalpointoftheimageandassuchshouldappearas
natural as possible. The temptation to over-lighten the
whitesoftheeyescanmaketheeyeslookunnaturaland
shouldbeavoided.Ingeneraliftheeyesarefairlylargein
theportraittheyshouldbecleanedupofbloodvesselsand
any hairs that may cross them, and perhaps lightened
slightlyifneeded.Toomanyhighlightsintheeyescanalso
bealittledistractingtotheviewer.Iftheportraitwaslit
withmorethanonekeylight,orthefilllightisalsopresent
intheeye,itmaybebeneficialforanyextrahighlightsto
be cloned out of the image.
