Panasonic has lifted the curtain on its much-
anticipated full-frame mirrorless model, designed
with professional video recording in mind.
When the Panasonic Lumix S1H hits the shelves, it
will be the first interchangeable-lens-system camera
to offer video recording in 6K/24p (3:2  aspect
ratio) or 5.9K/30p (16:9 aspect ratio), as well as
the first full-frame mirrorless to shoot 10-bit 60p
4K/C4K footage.
The camera is expected to be launched towards
the end of the year, though no local release date or
pricing has yet been confirmed.

As a category sponsor in the 2019 Iris Awards, D-Photo was proud to present the award for
top student photographer to Timothy Lomax at a black tie gala in Wellington.
Hosted by the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photographers (NZIPP), the Iris Awards
celebrates excellence in professional — and, in this case, up-and-coming professional —
photography. Head to page 92 for a gallery of all this year’s winners.

MIRRORLESS MEDIUM-
FORMAT MONSTER
Fujifilm has notched a world first with the
release of its GFX100, the first medium-format

mirrorless camera with a sensor over 100MP.
The camera is built around a 102MP back-
illuminated CMOS sensor; packs five-stop in-
body image stabilization (IS); and, despite all
that resolution, is able to shoot at a 5fps clip

— that’s 1GB of data a second for those keeping
count at home.
The Fujifilm GFX100 is available from
New Zealand retailers at a recommended retail
price of $17,999 (body only).

Entry into the fourth Sony Alpha Photography Awards
is open until the end of August.
The awards were conceived to recognize outstanding
images captured with the Sony Alpha camera and
lens system.
Last year saw two Kiwi photographers excel in the
Australasian competition. Ilan Wittenberg took out the
Grand Prize as well as the Portrait category, with an image
that appeared on the cover of D-Photo Issue  No.  84,
and Keeley  Watson won the inaugural Youth category.
Keeley was interviewed in D-Photo Issue No. 85.

Local photographic importers were recently
the subject of a New  Zealand  Listener cover
story, which examined the way some parallel
importers are dodging border tax and hurting
the industry.
The eight-page feature interviews CRK head
Gerard  Emery about the efforts he and other
like-minded industry players have made to
get Customs and online marketplaces to
crack down on importers using fraudulent
paperwork to avoid GST payments. Head to
our Industry  Insider column on page  10 for
more on this contentious issue.
