role in our lives...Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential
ingredient in effective communication. It’s the foundational principle
that holds all relationships – marriages, families, and organizations
of every kind – together. And trust grows out of trustworthiness.
Both character and competence are necessary to inspire trust. The
reality is that character and competence drive everything else
in the organization. To nurture character and competence is the most
high-leverage thing we can do to create empowerment...Again, trust
is the natural outgrowth of trustworthiness. So the highest-
leverage thing we can do to create trust is to be trustworthy.^53


  • Trust is the most important element in the development and
    maintenance of a productive work environment. Trust stimulates
    security and confidence, two prerequisites to innovation and creativity.
    On the other hand, mistrust produces frustration, insecurity, and fear

    • all major deterrents to creative thinking and innovative action.^54



  • To maintain a highly productive work environment, the leader must
    develop a trust relationship with his people, give them decision-
    making power that allows them to use their creativity, turn mistakes
    and failures into positive learning experiences, and provide proper
    recognition. Trust begins with the leader or manager.^55



  1. MANAGEMENT:



  • Great success creates a momentum that demands more and more
    managers to keep the growing enterprise under control while
    requiring little if any leadership.^56

  • Management is about people...All managers do the same things,
    whatever the purpose of their organization. All of them bring people

  • each possessing different knowledge – together for joint performance.
    All of them have to make human strengths productive in performance
    and human weakness irrelevant.^57

  • A manager, whether in a ball-bearing manufacturer or in a large
    church, should spend hours placing people in the job to match their
    strengths, helping them to define their objectives, finding the resources
    they need to work effectively. Management is about people, not so
