This composition is about movement

and the interaction of shapes. The

checkered cloth is set diagonally,

while the calamondins tumble across

the page. The square glass vase is

the perfect complement for this

arrangement and repeats the square

motif. It also introduces a hard

surface where the others are tactile

or fleshy. WA

Wigwam Motel (watercolor on

board, 18x26)

The theme of this composition

is triangles, and there are lots

of them in the painting. I

included the wigwam motel

rooms to add more triangles

and for context of place. The

rusty truck in the scene was

on Route 66, and while the

colors were glorious, it was

the toothy smile of the grille

that stood out to me.
