The derivation of the
Crowstone’s name isn’t clear.
It may come from Crowes, a
nearby settlement existing in
1536, or it could be because
the stone was a favourite
lookout post for
beachcombing crows, which
may explain how Crowes got
its name in the first place.
Starting in 1842, Blundell
writes, there were ceremonial
