RESIDENCE EVIL Tracking down the perfect zombie-proof base
3
HUNTER GATHERER
Make sure a river or a forest
is close so you’ve got a ready
supply of fish and game with
which to keep yourself
nourished. Meals pilfered
from abandoned kitchens
won’t last forever.
PREPARE
TO DIE
12
Death is
inevitable in
Project Zomboid.
Don’t view it as a
failure, but try to
enjoy your final
moments. And if
you’re making a new
character in the
same world, leave
your gear
somewhere it can be
easily regained.
RIP AND TEAR
11
Stockpile nails and sheets. Nails are
used in many carpentry recipes and
increase weapon damage, but sheets can
block your base’s windows and be ripped
into bandages to stop you bleeding after
taking damage. Just make sure to change
them before they get dirty.
WATER WORLD
10
Collect as much water and as many
receptacles for it as possible. Every
bottle, bowl, mug, and can will help once
the utilities get switched off. Craft Rain
Collector Barrels with planks, nails, and
bin bags for a more permanent solution.
Keeping hydrated is vital.
ROAD TRIP
9
The noise generated by driving a
car is actually worth the risk: they
function as portable storage as you reach
further areas for scavenging. You can
hotwire them yourself, but you should
look in the glove box or on the floor
around one for a key first.
VIRTUAL ORIENTEERING
8
Use a map to mark the location of
gear you’ve left and identify
important points of interest, like
medicine-filled hospitals. Left-click the
bottom-right square for that or check the
Vital Links section on the previous page
for an interactive version.
2
MULTIPLE ENTRANCES
Ideally you should have a
durable main entrance, like a
garage door, and another door
through which you can escape.
Everything else you should
barricade, and all windows
should be blocked.
1
MANAGEABLE
COMMUTE
Making your home in a built-up
area will mean you’re surrounded
by undead, but too far away and
you’ll be using too much
petrol scavenging for
supplies. Find a happy
medium.
