SarangSarang means “ Rainy Season”; it is the name of musical tone, which is usually sung,in a rainy season. In this Sur, Shah Latif has described thrilling view, scenario and blessingsof the rainy season. The rain symbolises mercy and generosity of Allah.
SaamundiSamundi means ”Sailor”. In this Sur Shah Latif apparently describes the state ofthe departing sailors and their wives, while on the voyage in the sea. But eternally herefers it to the spiritual journey to understand the spiritual truths, and those refractoryforces may not hinder him.
Sasui (Abri, Mauzoori, Desi, Kohyari, and Hussaini)The folk story of Sasui Punhon is composed by Shah Latif in five Surs. Shah Latifdescribes Sasui’s pathetic wandering in mountains to find Punhu, during which sheultimately dies. Shah Bhittai symbolises Sasui’s efforts to the seeker of the Divine path whoneither loses heart, nor gives up hope, nor is discouraged with the hardships and obstacles.
SuhniThe word “Suhni” means “Beautiful”. This most beautiful Sur is based on thefolk love tale of Suhni and Mehar. It contains the vigorous and patheticSufic illusions based on the sorrows that Suhni suffered while going to herbeloved through swimming. Shah Bhittai has taken this love story asparable of the human soul in quest of Allah and the spiritual truths.
SorathThis Sur is also melody in music and is sung during second part of the night. It isbased on the tale of abandoned princess Sorath and a king, Raja Rai Diach, wherein thelater magnanimity cuts and gives his head at the promise made by him to one Bijal, afiddler who was sent by a rival Raja to bring his head, not knowing that Raja Rai Diach
