Sea Treasures Hammered Earrings, Bracelet, and Necklace Chapter 9

6.Put on the safety glasses. Place the fish
shapes onto a hard, flat surface and put the
point of the awl on the mark that you made

(^1) ⁄ 16 ” from the edge of the fish shape. Using a
hammer, firmly strike the top of the awl once
to make a pilot hole for drilling holes into
the fish shapes.
7.Using a^1 ⁄ 16 ” drill bit, drill holes into each of
the fish shapes using a handheld rotary tool,
flex shaft, or drill press (don’t forget to wear
your safety glasses).
4.The edges of the fish shapes will be sharp
after you cut them out, so use a file to refine
the shape of the fish and to eliminate any
sharp corners or rough edges. After you file
the edges, use a fine grit sanding pad to go
over the area where you filed to smooth the
edges and remove any file marks. Do this
step to each fish shape.
5.Measure^1 ⁄ 16 ” from one tip of the fish shapes
and place a mark where you want to drill the
holes (this is where you will attach them to
the oval jump rings and the H” silver chain).
You can place the holes on the same end of
the fish shapes, or you can place the holes so
that one fish is swimming upstream and one
is swimming downstream!
