It seems that patty melts are popping up on the menu everywhere you go these days. This
restaurant copycat recipe for Steak'n Shake Frisco Melt is a winner, and one that you can make at
home with just a few simple ingredients.
INGREDIENTS | SERVES 4
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 tablespoons Thousand Island dressing
1 pound ground beef
8 slices of bread
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
2 tablespoons diced onions
8 slices American cheese
4 slices Swiss cheese
4 lettuce leaves
4 slices of tomato
1. Combine the ketchup and salad dressing. Set aside.
2. Form ground beef into 8 thin patties. Fry or grill the burgers until cooked as desired. Set
aside.
3. Lightly toast all 8 slices of bread.
4. To a skillet, add ½ tablespoon of margarine, and cook the onions for 2–3 minutes until
softened. Remove the onions and set aside.
5. Layer as follows from bottom to top: bread, American cheese, burger, Swiss cheese,
burger, American cheese, onions, salad dressing, and bread.
6. Place sandwich in skillet and toast 1–2 minutes on each side to melt the cheeses.
7. Serve with a lettuce leaf and a tomato slice
