Painting buildings presents a challenge to a pastel painter, as there are many details to include.

However, by using a combination of soft pastels and pastel pencils, amazing results can be achieved.

Draw the subject very lightly with a pastel pencil and charcoal stick. Note that the building is drawn in a

di!erent style from the gardens below. Draw the building accurately, using a ruler to maintain straight

edges and the correct positioning of the windows and chimneys. Draw the garden more loosely.
