Use a mid-brown pastel to outline the shape of the boathouse in its reflection on the water, creating a

realistic image among the lily pads. Distribute areas of sunlight throughout the distant trees, and use

a layer of pale green on the banks of the pond to highlight the taller grasses in the bottom left corner.

Sharpen the boathouse and the tree trunks with the point of a black pastel pencil. Emphasize darker

shadows around the building and under the trees, and add another layer of mid-green to fill the

shadow areas of the trees and fields and add depth to the picture.
