■Endocarditis

Prognosis
■Systolic click only – excellent prognosis
■10% progress to significant MR (usually men and older patients)
➣Obtain echo/Doppler every 1–2 years to assess severity of MR
and left ventricular function
➣Consider mitral valve surgery if MR moderate/severe – see sec-
tion on MR

History
■Asymptomatic
■Facial and truncal lesions are common in children.
■Genital lesions are common in adults and are transmitted by direct
contact with an infected individual.
■Facial lesions in adults are associated with immunosuppressed state.

Signs & Symptoms
■Flesh-colored or slight pink globose papules with a central dell
■Lesions may be single or may coalesce.
