The setup

If you are nervous about compositing
many images together, focus on being
consistent with your shots. Getting it
right isn’t about the best camera or the
best lens, it is about using the same
camera and the same lens. If you use the
same lighting, camera, lens and angles
for all of the images you are compositing
together, it is much more likely to come
together in a seamless way. Ensuring you
shoot with a composite in mind makes
the editing process much simpler.

Shooting for a composite can
be tough, but consistency will
win every time

Consistency

is queen

BLANK BACKDROP
Using a blank backdrop, such as
a bedsheet or blank wall, will help
to separate the subject from the
background. If your background
can contrast in some way to the
person or thing you are cutting
out, such as light hair on a dark
background, the easier it will be
to edit in Photoshop later.

SIMPLIFYING THE ELEMENTS
When shooting for a composite,
remember that perspective and angle
matter. Take a moment to plan your
shot ahead of time, including sketching
your final composition, so that you
understand each component part that
will go into the image. For example, I
shot myself at a lower angle than I did
the ladder.

COHESION AND FLOW
When you are choosing your
props and costumes, make
sure everything has cohesion.
Choose a time period and
make sure all the elements fit
that time. Also choose a colour
palette and make sure all the
items flow within that palette.
