She welcomed me into the pastel
family with such warmth and kind-
ness that I felt we were old friends
before we’d even placed our order.
From that day on, she never ended
any communication—whether by
phone or email—without wishing me
“ joy and hugs.” And, for me, that’s
exactly what she always delivered—
cheerful enthusiasm and loving
support—to her own cherished
family and to her extended family
in pastel. The art world is better for
her being a part of it, and she will be
greatly missed. PJ

Landscapes were a favorite subject for Tarbet,
who advised plein air painters not to rush when
seeking the scene. “Look for an area of sunshine
and shadow,” she said. “Sometimes, when we think
we’ve found it, a slight turn makes it even better.”
