Enrofloxacin (Baytril)
Fluoroquinoloneantibacterial drug. Actsvia inhibition of DNAgyrase in bacteria toinhibit DNA and RNAsynthesis. Bactericidal.broad spectrum of activity.
Adverse effects includeseizures in epilepticanimals, arthropathy indogs 4–28 weeks of age,vomiting in dogs and catsat high doses. Blindness incats has been reported.Drug interactions
:May
increase concentrations oftheophylline if usedconcurrently.Coadministration with di-and trivalent cations (e.g.,sucralfate) may decreaseabsorption.
Solution is not approvedfor IV use but has beenadministered via this routesafely if given slowly. Donot mix IV solutions withcation-containing fluids(e.g., Mg + + , Ca + + ).

Ergocalciferol (vitaminD2) (Calciferol, Drisdol)
Vitamin D analogue. Usedfor vitamin D deficiencyand as treatment ofhypocalcemia, especiallythat associated withhypothyroidism. VitaminD promotes absorptionand utilization of calcium.
Overdose may causehypercalcemia. Avoid usein pregnant animalsbecause it may cause fetalabnormalities. Usecautiously with high dosesof calcium-containingpreparations.
Should not be used forrenal hypoparathyroidismbecause of inability toconvert to activecompound. Available asoral solution, tablets,capsules, and injection.Doses for individualpatients should beadjusted by monitoringserum calciumconcentrations.
