Erythromycin (manybrands and generic)
Macrolide antibiotic.Inhibits bacteria bybinding to SOS ribosomeand inhibiting proteinsynthesis. Spectrum ofactivity limited primarily togram-positive aerobicbacteria. Used for skinand respiratory infections.
Most common side effect isvomiting (probably causedby cholinergic-like effect ormotilin-induced motility).May cause diarrhea in someanimals. Do not administerpo to rodents or rabbits.
There are several forms oferythromycin, includingthe ethylsuccinate andestolate esters, andstearate salt for oraladministration. There isno convincing data tosuggest that one form isabsorbed better thananother, and one dose isincluded for all.
250 or 500 mgcapsules or tablets.
10–20 mg/kg q8–12h po;prokinetic effects at0.5–1.0 mg/kg q8–12hpo.
Estradiol cypionate(ECP, Depo-EstradiolCypionate, generic)
Semi-synthetic estrogencompound. Used primarilyto induce abortion inanimals.
High risk of endometrialhyperplasia and pyometra.High doses can produceleukopenia,thrombocytopenia, andfatal aplastic anemia.
Ordinarily, 22

Etodolac (EtoGesic[veterinary]; Lodine[human])
An NSAID of thepyranocarboxylic acidgroup. Inhibitsinflammatoryprostaglandins.
NSAIDs may cause GIulceration. Other adverseeffects caused by NSAIDsinclude decreased plateletfunction and renal injury.Keratoconjunctivitis siccahas been reported in dogs.In clinical trials withetodolac, some dogs atrecommended dosesshowed weight loss, loosestools, or diarrhea. At highdoses, etodolac caused GIulceration in dogs.
Studies in dogs showedetodolac to be moreefficacious than placebofor treatment of arthritis.
150 and 300 mgtablets.
