Selamectin (Revolution) Topical parasiticide and


heartworm prevention.

Transient localizedalopecia with or withoutinflammation at or nearthe site of application wasobserved in approximately1% of 691 treated cats.Other signs observedrarely included GI signs,anorexia, lethargy,salivation, tachypnea, andmuscle tremors.


Recommended for use indogs 6 weeks of age orolder and in cats 8 weeksof age or older.


Available in sixseparate dosestrengths.


6–12 mg/kg topicallyevery 30 days.


Selegiline (Anipryl [alsoknown as deprenyl andL-deprenyl]; humandose form is Eldepryl)

Inhibits specificmonoamine oxidase(MAO type B) to inhibitdegradation of dopaminein CNS. In people, it isprimarily used to treatParkinson’s disease andother neurodegenerativediseases (in combinationwith levodopa). In dogs, itis approved to controlclinical signs ofpituitary-dependenthyperadrenocorticism(Cushing’s disease) and totreat cognitive dysfunctionin geriatric dogs.

Adverse effects have notbeen reported in dogs.However,amphetamine-like signscan be produced inexperimental animals. Athigh doses in dogs,hyperactivity has beenobserved(doses

use with other MAOinhibitors or drugs thatinhibit serotonin reuptake.
