Yohimbine (Yobine)


α^2


-Adrenergic antagonist.
Used primarily to reverseactions of xylazine ordetomidine. Atipamezoleis more specific as areversing agent.


High doses can causetremors and seizures.


Reverses signs of sedationand anesthesia caused byα


-agonists. 2

2 mg/mL injection.


0.11 mg/kg IV, or0.25–0.5 mg/kg SC, IM.


Zidovudine (AZT)(Retrovir)

Antiviral drug. In people,used to treat AIDS. Inanimals, has beenexperimentally used fortreatment of felineleukemia virus (FeLV) andfeline immunodeficiencyvirus (FIV) viral infection incats. AZT acts to inhibitthe viral enzyme reversetranscriptase, whichprevents conversion ofviral RNA into DNA.

Anemia and leukopeniaare adverse effects.Monitor the packed cellvolume in treated catsand perform a completeblood count periodically.

At this time, experiencewith using AZT fortreating viral disease inanimals is largelyexperimental oranecdotal. Consult a moredetailed reference forguidance. It may havehelped some cats with FIVand may preventpersistent FeLV.

10 mg/mL syrup;10 mg/mL injection.

Cat: 15 mg/kg q12h po to20 mg/kg q8h po (dosesas high as 30 mg/kg/dayhave been used).
