niches. These studies provide a better understanding of organogenesis in develop-
mental biology and represent a breakthrough in bioengineered organ regeneration
which shows real promise for uses in next-generation organ regenerative therapy.
Here, we have collected a series of reviews on recent studies of organ regenera-
tion from stem cells using strategies inspired by developmental biology. These
reviews have contributed to a better understanding of the recent advances in the
study of organogenesis in both developmental biology and in the development of
clinical applications for next-generation regenerative therapies.
I sincerely thank all of the authors for their contributions. I am also grateful to
Momoko Asawa and Yasutaka Okazaki, editors of the Springer Review Books.
