I

t's not just cutting-edge motorcycles that re-

quire the most of the rider and racer. Riders

piloting vintage machines can benefi t just as

much from basic and advanced training. The

American Historic Racing Motorcycle Associ-

ation (AHRMA) has developed its Fast & Safe

Roadracing School to help the owners and rac-

ers of vintage machines get up to speed and to

learn the skills required to ride a motorcycle at

racetrack speeds.

Like many other racing organizations,

AHRMA holds its school prior to the beginning

of racing on the weekend, and when a rider

passes the school, they’re licensed to compete

that weekend. It's really thrilling to start out

your weekend with no racing experience and

to complete it with a competition license, your

fi rst races in the books, and—if you are lucky—

maybe even a trophy!
