BACKSTAGE BEAUTY
Pale greens, blues, and lilacs are certainly less
expected for fall than spring—but even more
surprising were the ways in which makeup artists
applied the soft shades. At Eckhaus Latta, Isamaya
Ffrench used an airbrush machine to disperse
multiple pigments all around the eyes, giving
them an abstract, painterly effect. And at Huishan
Zhang, mint green looked bold and punky
smudged across the lids—a way of reimagining
pastels “to feel expressive and make a statement,”
says makeup artist Lucy Burt. (Try Anastasia

When it came to lips, if
it wasn’t red, it wasn’t
on the runway. It didn’t
matter if the formula was
opaque or sheer, matte or
glossy. All makeup artists
got the same memo: Red
can and should be a
throw-it-on, walk-out-the-
door shade. “A red lip with
a bare eye is a beautiful
statement for fall,” says
makeup artist Grace Lee;
she did just that pairing at
Jonathan Simkhai.
