AUSTRALIAN SAILING (^) + YACHTING
APRIL-MAY 2015 MYSAILING.COM.AU
125 NATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2014/15 125 National Championships
were sailed at the Tumby Bay Yacht Club
on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.
The event was won by Luke Johnson and
Libby McNeil from QLD who improved
on their third and second place at the
previous two national championships
to take the title in convincing fashion
winning every heat at the regatta.
AUSTRALIAN 505 CHAMPIONSHIP
The variable weather from January 19
to 23 provided a great week of racing
at Black Rock Yacht Club for this
year’s Australian 5O5 Championships.
Sailing conditions varied over eight
races, 15 to 20 knots in typical Port
Philip waves, 10 to 15 knots steady
and 4 to 7 knots shifty to test the best
sailors in all conditions. On the last
day Kevin Cameron / Sam Heritage
(Qld) showed their true form with a
bullet to secure the title with only three
points separating the next four boats.
A CLASS CATAMARAN
AUSTRALIAN
CHAMPIONSHIP
Queenslander Brad Collett from
Humpybong YC has won the 2015
International A Class Catamaran
Australian Championship after four
individual heat wins. Whilst at his
strongest in the fresher breezes on his
foiling Exploder boat, he was also very
skillful in the lighter weather.
CADET NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Port Lincoln Yacht Club hosted the
National Championship Regatta
for the International Cadet Class
where stable breezes, warm weather
and the usual Cadet camaraderie
delighted the 66 boat fleet over seven
days and 12 races. The Australian
Championship came down to the last
race with the Victorian crew of Julian
Sasson and Mischa Suda winning the
regatta from the Tasmanian crew of
Sam Abel and Hugo Allison.
