HOBIE 16 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

2014 Australian Hobie Cat Nationals were hosted by Koombana Bay Sailing

Club, in Bunbury, Western Australia. Sixteen races where run over the five

day event in light and heavy sailing

conditions. In a very strong Hobie 16

fleet consisting of 48 teams, including

teams from New Caledonia, South

Africa, and New Zealand, local Western

Australian sailors Darren Smith and

Josie Marks (current Hobie 16 World

champion crew) dominated the

championships and lead the event from

start to finish.

FLYING FIFTEEN AUSTRALIAN

CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015

The series was hosted by Sandgate
YC on Bramble Bay. The wind
was strong early in the week
with one gust of 34 knots in the
first race that sorted out some of
the crews. Later in the week the
winds were around 15 knots with
some considerable shifts mixing
up the leader board.

CATAMARAN

CHAMPIONSHIP

The Australian Arrow Catamaran
Championship was held at Christies Sailing
Club in South Australia over the Christmas
break. A first time champion and a
shortened regatta due to weather extremes
were the highlights of the event. Brett
Pearsons was clearly fastest in the fleet but
only just won, on a count-back, from past
multiple winner Frank O’Rourke.
