John Rigby & Co, the third oldest
gunmaker in the world, was
delighted to receive the Sporting
Classics Award for Excellence
for its Big Game rifl e at the
Safari Club International Annual
Convention, held in Las Vegas
in January. It was presented to
the Rigby team by Ron Spomer,
Rifl e Editor of Sporting Classics,
the renowned global hunting and
fi shing magazine headquartered
in South Carolina.
The Rigby Big Game rifl e is
built on the newly manufactured
Magnum Mauser action, which
is based on the classic and
time-tested M98 design. These
are supplied by Mauser before
being assembled into superb
hand-fi nished rifl es by master

craftsmen at Rigby’s London
workshop.
Marc Newton, Managing
Director of John Rigby & Co,
commented: “To be given this
prestigious award less than
two years after Rigby’s return
to the UK is a huge accolade
for the whole of the team. I am
very proud that Rigby’s gunroom
manager David Miles and factory
manager Mark Renmant were
with me at the ceremony. The
award is now on display in the
workshop where everyone who
has put their heart and soul into
creating the Big Game rifl e can
see it and be reminded of this
superb achievement.”
Mark Renmant, who
designed the Big Game rifl e

stock and been involved with
Rigby for the past 33 years,
added: “I was enormously proud
to go up and receive this award
which recognises the huge
team effort put into creating
the Big Game rifl e. This was a

tremendous moment, a great
honour for me personally and for
the Rigby team, and something
I will remember for many years
to come.”

Great Wall Motors has launched
the latest generation of the
4x4 double-cab onto the
UK market, promising
improved quality, a
higher specifi cation
and better value. It
retains its chunky
looks, amplifi ed by
muscular wheel-arches and high ground clearance, but now with
a slightly sleeker profi le with the side indicators incorporated into
the door mirrors instead of the front wing. The 2015 Steed uses
the same free-spinning 2.0 litre diesel as the previous model, now
certifi ed to comply with Euro 5 emission regulations.
Inside are more signifi cant improvement; higher quality
materials, such as that used on the seat facings and a sharper,
more contemporary design of instrument cluster, creates a more
comfortable and ergonomic feel. New technologies have been
added to improve convenience, including a multi-function rear view
mirror with automatic dimming and an outside temperature display.
A tyre pressure monitoring system is also incorporated which will
display the working pressure for each tyre. Prices start at just
£14,998 (CVOTR) for the generously equipped Steed S model – the
lowest price for any double-cab 4x4 pick-up in the UK – increasing
to £16,998 for the top-of-the-range SE. Despite carrying a premium
of only £1,000 over the old model, the 2015 Steed is packed with
even more practical, standard features.
