PACIFIC
LOA: 85 m
Builder: Lürssen, Germany
Designer: German Frers
Interiors: Bannenberg & Rowell
Launched: 2010

Located in the Hawaiian islands earlier this year, the very unusual 85 m
Lürssen yacht Pacifi c was living up to her name until voyaging to Phuket
via Sutera Harbour in North Borneo for the start of the November-April
high season on Th ailand’s azure Andaman Sea coast.
Designed by the Argentinian German Frers, who is best-known for
his ultra- sophisticated sailing yachts, the vessel has a remarkably low
profi le, and a rather refl ective hull paint that seems to have chameleon-
like properties.
Her owner is reported to be Leonid Mikhelson, Chairman of
Novatek, Russia’s largest natural gas producer. If so he should be very
much at home in Phuket, which features Russian menus, magazines,
radio and TV stations aft er an infl ux of Soviet tourists, many from the
Pacifi c coast centred on Vladivostok.
Pacifi c has been in Asia-Pacifi c waters before, notably calling in
Australia and Indonesia during prior passages. Th e vessel carries
helicopters, custom tenders along with other seagoing toys as well as
off ers seven double suites, a twin and two singles, and is also registered
in the Caymans.

TITAN

LOA: 78 m
Builder: Abeking & Rasmussen, Germany
Designer: Reymond Langton
Interiors: Reymond Langton
Launched: 2010

Looking smartly semi-naval, Abeking’s grey-hulled with white topsides
Titan has been exploring the region from Singapore recently, fi rst based
on the outer breakwater at Raffl es Marina in Tuas, and then Marina at
Keppel Bay during the Singapore Yacht Show in last year.
Th ought to be part of Russian billionaire and Chelsea Football Club
owner Roman Abramovich’s ever-evolving superyacht fl eet, the vessel
has also been listed for charter on some sites, with a layout that sleeps
12 guests in seven staterooms. Crew complement is 19-20.
Charter agents refer to “timeless styling, beautiful furnishings
and sumptuous seating in her living areas to create an elegant
and comfortable atmosphere, along with impressive leisure and
entertainment facilities”.
Using Singapore to pick up owner’s guests and going on to Bali,
Phuket or hundreds of other Southeast Asian destinations has come
under pressure lately as locally owned superyachts and visitors fi ll up
available berths.
Titan headed back to Europe late last year, and her destination,
Germany, indicates a possible fi ve-year-survey at the builder’s yard.

LAMIMA

LOA: 65 m
Builder: Haji Baso and Haji
Saka, Indonesia
Designer: Marcelo Penna
Interiors: Traditional-Modern
Launched: 2014

Lamima is reviewed in greater depth elsewhere in
this issue, so suffi ce to say here that she is a slightly
unusual entry into the Top 15. She is built of iron
wood in what used to be known as the Celebes Islands of Indonesia,
now Sulawesi.
Although constructed in the phinisi style of many traditional
Indonesian wooden sailing ships, yacht designer Marcelo Penna of
Barcelona has “unobtrusively incorporated refi nements to enhance her
intrinsic strength and stability, and given her a sail wardrobe designed
to catch every breeze of the archipelago, thus creating a fi rst-class sailing
vessel, with all the opulence of a superyacht”.
Charter rates are decidedly lower than superyacht levels, however,

so those seeking a diff erent experience in this “epitome of luxury”
could well consider voyaging in the world’s largest archipelago, whose
14,000 islands include well-known Bali and also the lesser-known
but wonderful Nusa Tenggara islands to Bali’s east, where also lies
Komodo Island and the Spice Islands of yore, as well as the latest diving
“discovery,” Raja Ampat.
Th e vessel carries 14 guests in a master, four doubles and some
smaller cabins. Each has HDTV, iPod docking stations and other
similar amenities.
