SDT International // Stand: M5035
SDT International will be holding live
demonstrations of its ultrasonic products
and technologies to showcase the benefit
of ultrasound for leak detection, tightness
testing, predictive maintenance and
automotive quality control.
SDT says its ultrasonic products can be
used in a wide range of applications, including
hatch covers, cranes, doors and windows,
hydraulics, switchboards, ventilators, winches
and pumps. The range can also be used to test
valves, cable transits, containers, engines,
couplings, gearboxes, bow-thrusters, heat
exchangers and pneumatic systems.
Ultrasonic products scan applications in a
variety of ways, such as listening, measuring,
trending, logging, analyzing, reporting and
online monitoring – which the team will be
demonstrating at the expo.
The company says ultrasound can be used
in shipyards, ship repair, manufacturing, and
by service suppliers and surveyors, as well as
by consultants across a range of vessels such
as general/dry cargo ships; tankers; reefers;
ro-ro, cruise, offshore and naval vessels;
yachts; fishing vessels; and tugs.

What is the biggest challenge facing the marine industry?
Currently the biggest challenge is the continuing crisis due to
over-capacity in the bulk and container markets. There is also
the decline of the offshore markets caused by falling oil prices,
and rising competition between conventional fossil fuels
(natural gas substitution), fracking gas (from the USA), and
renewable energies such as tidal or wind power. The other
even more long-term challenge is the shortage of marine
engineers. This is still a problem despite many engineers
being made redundant in the oil and gas industry.
How can non-destructive testing (NDT) and onboard
maintenance help?
Ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM)/NDT technologies,
combined with a service company that offers reasonable and
predictable pricing for fast and professional solutions, can
reduce unforeseen breakdowns or failures and the operating
cost of the asset.
What does Clever Marine Services have planned for
2016 and beyond?
CMS is expanding its spare part sales, as well as the UTM
and diesel overhaul services, and plans to start its own
apprenticeship program at the end of 2016.
What activity do you have planned for the expo?
CMS will co-exhibit with Hanseatic Industrial Care, which
will showcase its ultrasonic antifouling solutions. We will be
presenting our range of services, and meeting and networking
with existing and potential clients. \
