Saltwater Boat Angling — December 2017

Lures- The Tronix Artic Eel and the Fishin
Magician Slid-Stik popper
When it comes to lures I have a ton of them but, if I had to only
put two on my list, they would be the Artic Eel put out by Tronix,
in the UK, and the Skid-Stik, put out by Fishin Magician, in the
US. With these two lures I can stay on striped bass and bluefish
all day.
The Tronix Artic Eel is my go-to lure when the fish are after bait
beneath the surface. The attached head weighs 20g and the
large size measures 130mm. Its design keeps it from hanging up
in the rocks where the big ones lie in wait. It perfectly mimics the
eels that the fish feed on. http://www.tronixhto.com

When the fish are busting on the surface I will switch over to the
Fishin Magician Slid-Stik popper top water lure. The lure is
deadly on fish in a surface feeding-frenzy. With two sets of treble
hooks it works wonders when the bass are after mackerel.

Camp Chef Everest
So where do you get hot water while floating somewhere in the
North Atlantic? Maybe the boat has a galley (probably
not). My next item has that problem solved. In my truck
there is a Camp Chef Everest, twin-burner portable
propane stove packed with my gear. It doesn’t always go on
the boat, but when it does it is great to have and everybody
loves it. All you need is a propane canister and you are all set to
cook lunch or heat up water for a much needed cup of coffee or
tea. http://www.campchef.com

Camp Chef SmokePro DLX
My last item involves cooking your catch once you get
it home. I love to cook and there are a number of ways
to cook your catch. There is good old fish and chips (we
Americans can’t seem to get that one right) and then
there is the grill. I love to cook fish on the grill or, bet-
ter yet, in a smoker. I can do either, or both, using the
Camp Chef SmokePro DLX. I was looking for a smoker
and found many that ran off
propane or electricity,
but that is not what I
wanted. I then
found the
DLX which
combines a
grill with a
smoker and
runs on wood
pellets. I don’t
have it yet (that is
why it is on the list). I
hope Santa is reading
this. http://www.campchef.com

The New Primal Meat Stick
What if you aren’t up for a meal? Maybe the fish-
ing is on and you don’t want to stop long enough
to eat. I’ve been there and that is why the next
item on my list is something I never have enough
of; The New Primal Meat Stick. I guarantee you
will need to have at least a case of these things
handy. Once your mates get ahold of them (never
mind your grandchildren) they will be gone. They
are made with grass-fed beef and free-range
turkey and are gluten free. They also come in a
variety of flavours. http://www.thenewprimal.com
