Alternative-fuel engine

Isuzu’s (Plymouth, Mich.) first natural gas
or propane power unit provides a range
of dependable power. The REDTech
4HV1 power unit’s 4.6-L engine offers LP

  • 82.5 hp (61.5
    kW) at 1800
    rpm or 56.3 hp
    (41.9 kW) at
    2200 rpm. In
    natural gas,
    the 4HV1 of-
    fers 78.4 hp
    (58.5 kW) at
    1800 rpm or
    79.8 hp (59.5
kW) at 2200 rpm. According to Isuzu,
    the alternative-fuel engine is reliable,
quiet, fuel efficient and low maintenance.
Switchable for dual-fuel use in off-high-
way and industrial applications, this al-
    ternative-fuel engine’s standard features
    include a maintenance-free emission
control device, a 3-way catalyst (for LSI
    T2 applications), an electronic pressure
regulator, wiring harness and knock de-
tection. In addition, there are also several
    available options.

Hybrid propulsion concept

FPT Industrial’s (Turin, Italy) ‘hybrid
architecture’ is a modular concept that
focuses on the support of the thermal
combustion engine in all its operational
modes. This architecture can improve
efficiency and performance while re-
ducing CO 2 emissions and can be ap-
plied to a wide range of applications,
whether low- or high-energy-demand
vehicles, with small or large dimensions
and, most importantly, for the off-road,
on-road and marine segments. The
thermal engine has two main extra
components, the E-Flywheel and the
E-Turbocharger,
which recover
energy that
can be reused.
Compared to a
conventional
diesel engine,
FPT claims

these components guarantee sustain-
ability, performance, efficiency and fuel
saving. According to the company, the
FPT Industrial hybrid solution can re-
duce fuel consumption by up to 8%,
improve transient response by up to

50%, increase low-speed torque, opti-
mize the engine strategy and provide
energy availability for auxiliaries and
implements.
