Conservationists are working
hard to protect the gibbons
that live in Barekuri, such as
this male. The local population
stood at 21 individuals at the
end of last year

OUR GIBBONS
“The gibbons talk to other family
groups. Occasionally they cross into
each other’s territories, but just for a
minute. I believe they sing in glee. Morning breakfast
is like their prayers. When they are scared, it is
different – a rough sound. And when they are enjoying
themselves they sing freely, the male and the female.
They go to and fro in the branches. They dance.”
