ast and Seamless Travel (FAST) is the heart of the new terminal,
which for passengers means that every process from check-in to
boarding will be automated, with end-to-end self-service
options to speed up the departure process. The FAST journey
incorporates Automated Check-In Kiosks, Automated Bag-Drop,
Automated Immigration Gates, and Automated Boarding Gates. Manual
identity checks, as conducted in current terminals, will be done away
with at T4 with the introduction of state-of-the-art facial recognition
technology at key touch points to authenticate each passenger’s
identity. The user interface of these new platforms are easy to
understand and use, and ensures higher efficiency and productivity.
The innovative use of technology doesn’t just end at departure
processes – it blends into the design, art, and immersive digital
experience that the terminal offers. One of the largest art pieces is
Petalclouds, a grand scale kinetic sculpture at the heart of T4 that is
visible from almost everywhere in the terminal. It’s designed by ART +
COM Studios, the same designers behind the equally spectacular Kinetic
Rain at Changi Airport’s T1. Petalclouds moves gracefully to classical
music specially composed by BAFTA award-winning composure,
Olafur Arnalds.
Another piece of art that won’t be hard to miss is at the Central

Departure Security Screening area. While the CT machines in place
considerably reduce the waiting time through security checks,
passengers travelling through might want to hang around a little longer
to watch the 70m-long Immersive Wall that showcases high-definition
animations, scenes of Singapore’s skylines, ASEAN landmarks and even
a whimsical, animated clip of baggage being screened before a flight.
T4’s true highlight, however, is the Heritage Zone in the transit area,
which features a stunning Peranakan façade, giving a glimpse of the
evolution of shophouse architecture from the 1880s to the 1950s.
Before boarding, stay and watch the shophouses transform into a digital
theatre stage for an enchanting six-minute Peranakan love story unfold
right before your eyes. In addition, the Heritage Zone will feature local
brands straight from the streets of Singapore, and even a specially
designed washroom featuring Peranakan motifs.
Nine airlines including the Air Asia Group, Cathay Pacific, Cebu Pacific,
Korean Air, Spring Airlines and Vietnam Airlines will operate at T4,
serving an estimated eight million passengers at Changi Airport.
Whether you’re taking a flight out or bidding farewell to visitors, the T4
experience is bound to raise the departure process from mundane and
dreaded to exciting and anticipated.
