A serial killer with a skin mask.
A deformed psychotic clown. A
Trump supporter. There have been
many scary villains throughout
the seven seasons of FX’sAmerican
Horror Story, but the most iconic is
arguably season 1’s Rubber Man.
Because multiple actors, stuntmen,
and stand-ins all wore the suit, pro-
duction created 24 different Rubber
Man outfits. “This had to be worn by
an actor for up to 12 hours a day,”
says producer/costume designer Lou
Eyrich, who had the suit custom-
made at L.A.’s Syren Couture, the
company that helped create Michelle
Pfeiffer’s Catwoman look forBat-
man Returns. “We had hidden zip-
pers so that it was easy to just peel it,
but you still needed to do lube oil
and powder [to take it off]. We
made a lot of removable parts.” Fear
is not sold separately.—Tim Stack
