Climbing Mt Finke is a huge
achievement and shows off
a corker of a view
a coin to the tree next to the memorial of the
two people who blazed the track in hope of it
becoming a highway. It makes tracks more
special when you know the history behind
how they came to be, so Googs track is a
big highlight of the trip being both fantastic
4WDing, and a track with an incredible story
Mt Finke stands at the northern end of the
track and is an amazing place to take photos
from. The mountain really is a beautiful
spot and it is worth the climb to the top.
Remember to take a pen with you and sign
your name in the visitor book next to the
trig station at the top to record your journey.
Googs Track can be travelled solo but it’s
advised to go along with another 4WD due to
the remote location and tough driving.
From Mt Finke we made our way towards
the Gawler Ranges National Park. There are
camping and entry fees but it’s worth every cent.
There is rain water available at the entrance
of the Park but don’t rely on it to be full. The
Gawler Ranges is the perfect place to take the
family with a lot of short walks, a man made
stone dam, old Paney Homestead and too many
kangaroos to count. After rain the tracks can
become washed out in places and slippery but
If you’ve got a Troopy
you can squeeze in
luxuries like bean bags
to make camp more
comfortable!
