You can’t really tell how good this place is
when you rock up to the homestead. You’ll
be greeted by plenty of smiles and stories by
Jonesy, who’ll either collect your fees at the
homestead or cruise over to your camp later in
the day. $150 will get you two weeks at the best
riverside campsite available in the Gulf.
This is the perfect big group destination, with
six or seven waterfront campsites large enough
for over 20 blokes to stretch out. Apart from the
professional crabbers who live on the station, we
were one of only three groups spread across a huge
stretch of river. There are campsites that cater for
the bigger trailer boats closer to the homestead,
but the small tinny brigade would be wise to head
further north into the more remote sites.
The scene from camp is as good as any you
will see. Actually, it could be the best view in
the Top End! Beautiful, glassed-out water and
amazing sunsets in front of the crackling fi re;
there’s no better way to unwind. You can also
catch your feed straight from the bank if you
have more bodies than boats in your group.
