TRIED AND TESTED SPAS

Pullman Spa, Pullman

Bangkok King Power

The Strand,

Hong Kong

BACKGROUNDThe Pullman Bangkok
King Power hotel completed a full
refurbishment in June, which included
a redesign of the Pullman Fit and Spa.
The revamped spa facility offers eight
private treatment rooms including an
LPG Endermologie slimming treatment
room and Moroccan hammam.

TREATMENT I opted for the Express
Hammam Ritual followed by the LPG
Endermologie Treatment. My therapist
escorted me to a large steam room
decked in streaked grey marble. With
a bottle of water and a bell to ring in
case I needed anything, I settled in for
an intense 30-minute steam. With my
pores suitably expanded, I took a quick shower and lay down on a heated
bed for the second part of the treatment: an all-over body scrub with
brightening African black soap administered by special “kese” bath gloves.
After I’d been scrubbed from head to toe, the therapist rinsed me with cold
water – quite a shock to the system after intense heat.
I then changed into a stretchy all-in-one body suit to try out the spa’s
newest LPG Endermologie body treatment, using the LPG Cellu M6
machine. According to the spa, this is “a non-invasive treatment that
manipulates the connective tissue resulting in slimming, cellulite reduction
and anti-ageing”. The therapist rolled the machine’s hoover-like nozzle all
over my body – it felt like a massage by gentle suction and lasted for 30
minutes. No immediate difference was noticeable, but apparently this is
normal – multiple sessions are recommended for best results.

VERDICTThe newly designed Pullman Spa is a beautiful addition to the
property. The luxurious Hammam ritual was both relaxing and revitalising,
while the LPG treatment had a medical quality that felt effective (though
repeat visits are required for more significant results). Valerian Ho

BACKGROUNDThe Strand hairdressing and beauty
salon completed a renovation of its studio earlier this year
and launched the Tranquillity Pro-sleep Massage, specially
designed for jet-lagged travellers or those who have
difficulty falling asleep.

TREATMENTI was greeted by a friendly therapist who
ran me through the procedure, materials and scientific
benefits of the massage, before guiding me to a restful
white treatment room. I lay face down on the bed and the
therapist spread special Tranquillity oil from Comfort Zone
on my back. Soft music focusing on a steady, hypnotic
beat was played to enhance the peaceful atmosphere.
Soft-bristled brushes and a gentle touch are used to
promote relaxation and allow the body to absorb the
oil, resulting in more of a soft tickling than a deep-tissue
massage. I can’t say much else about the treatment
as I promptly fell asleep – though in a way, this speaks
volumes... After the one-hour treatment, the therapist
woke me up and offered me a post-treatment drink. She
also asked if I’d like to purchase the Tranquillity spa oil and
gave me tips on how to re-create the treatment at home,
complete with where to download similar music, which I
thought was a nice touch. I left the salon drowsy, relaxed
and happy as the effects continued beyond the treatment,
and enjoyed a deep sleep that night.

VERDICTA very relaxing, enjoyable treatment and bonus
points for being able to re-create the experience in one’s
own time. Valerian Ho
