get it exchanged for a big revolver.

17 Jan: Madanlal and Karkare reach Delhi; check

into Sharif Hotel, Chandni Chowk.

Nathuram and Apte check into Hotel Marina (Room

40), Connaught Place, Delhi, under false names— M

and S. Deshpande. They then visit Hindu Mahasabha

Bhawan at Mandir Marg, to meet Karkare.

18 Jan: The government decides to pay 05 5 crore

to Pakistan. Gandhi ends his fast. But the local

leaders can only reason with citizens of Delhi. The

refugees from Pakistan long for revenge, looking

upon the payment as a national betrayal.

20 Jan: Apte takes Badge and Shankar to Birla House

to show them Room No 3, servants’ quarters. Badge

is to shoot Gandhi from the window of his room.

19 Jan: Gopal Godse, brother of Nathuram, arrives

in Delhi from Poona with a .38 revolver, while Badge

and Shankar arrive with explosives.

You will get a good

into the crowd.

quarters. They then attend Gandhi’s prayer

meeting and finalise the plan of action.
