nowing your
purpose in life
and aligning it
with your career
helps to create
cathartic energy.
‘Discovering the
“why” behind
your work (your own blueprint), and
being able to articulate and sell that
is the number one priority for an easy
and successful working life,’ says Debbie
Pask in her bookZenful Business. But
what exactly is a personal blueprint?
Human blueprints are like those that
document the uniqueness of buildings.
Similar to our fingerprints that are also
unique to us, we have talents, gifts and
skills that allow us to fulfil our purpose
in life. Plus, life delivers a series of
challenges that shape our character.
Matching your unique blueprint to your
career or business is probably one of
the most incredible things to witness.
It’s as though this connection between
your purpose and career allows you to

come fully alive – and work becomes
passionate, fun, exciting and fulfilled.
Why create a difficult uphill battle
when you can flow with ease and
grace? This is the first step to long-
lasting success in business, and personal
happiness. It will take you so much
further than just hard work or skill.
True alignment of purpose means
that you have found your calling and
inner power. You might already be
working in your purpose, but being
able to connect the dots and know why
you are doing what you do is a whole
new energy.
Decisions are made easier and
actions are more effective. It’s like
you have your own personal light bulb
illuminating the path when you lose
your way in business or in your career

  • you just follow it to get back on track.
To work on your own blueprint,
write a statement for each of the
    following four we outline below.
These will assist in forming the
    backbone of your business blueprint.

Life purpose/
essence
This is a personal
statement or blueprint
of what you are here
to do. It is the most difficult
part to perfect as it underpins
everything you do. It is a creative
and intuitive process. Use an
A + B formula. A: Write down
your three greatest gifts or
natural talents. A good way to
tackle this is to ask this question:
‘For what do people come to
me the most?’ B: Explore your
greatest challenge. You are never
more motivated and inspired
as when you work on your
own challenges. For example:
Bringing people together by
providing a connected space
(this person’s gift might be
helping people connect or feel
comfortable and their challenge
might have been feeling isolated
or socially lonely in their youth).
