e saw that with Sadio Mane on the
bench at Bournemouth. It's helped
that Mohamed Salah has hit the
ground running as both players have got
electrifying pace and the balance between
them has worked quite well – Jürgen Klopp
can use them together or individually.
Salah has been the main man with Mane
not quite as prevalent as he was last season,
by his own high standards – although on his
day he's always a potential match-winner –
but as I say it shows strength-in-depth and
that's a healthy situation to have.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may not have
made the immediate impact of Salah but I
think he has the framework to operate better
at Liverpool than he had at Arsenal. I was
speaking to Lee Dixon recently and he said
that Oxlade-Chamberlain had great potential
but maybe the time was right to move away.
Regarding Adam Lallana, he'll be champing
at the bit but will understand too that his
return has to be a gradual process: it's not
so much the initial injury but the threat
of muscle-strains, pulls and little tweaks.
Hopefully he'll be back regularly soon.
With these type of home games, against
opposition that may try to defend with ten
behind the ball then hit you on the break,
it's crucial that you don't lose. Sometimes
you just need that spark, a bit of brilliance,
but it's never easy. Patience is key.
