ONES AT WAR.

During World War Two,

Fulham relied heavily on guest

players and teams would change

regularly. To confuse matters

during the 1944/45 season,

Fulham had six guest players

called Jones. Outside-right

Len Jones played regularly for

Fulham during the war years

and scored eight times in 118

appearances. He also played

for Barnsley, Plymouth Argyle,

Southend United, Colchester

United and Ipswich Town during

his career. The other players called

Jones played only a handful of

matches that season. These were:

Charlie Jones, a centre-half from

Southend United, Fred Jones, a

forward from Ipswich Town, Eric

Jones, a winger with Stoke City,

George Jones, an outside-left from

Sheffield United, and Sam Jones, a

wing-half from Blackpool.

J

UNIORS.

Fulham first entered the FA

Youth Cup during 1953/54, the

second year of the competition,

when they drew 1-1 at Hendon,

winning the Replay 6-0. One

of Fulham’s best seasons in the

competition came in 1985/86

when they reached the Fifth

Round but lost 3-0 to Manchester

City at the Cottage. The Fulham

side included six players who

would go on to play in the

Football League in Gary Smith,

Shaun Gore, Glen Thomas, Justin

Skinner, Kevin Hoddy and Paul

Mortimer. Fulham Juniors won

the South East Counties League

Cup in 1971/72 when they beat

Arsenal 3-2 on aggregate over a

two-legged Final. In the South

East Counties League in 1954/55,

the Whites finished runners-up to

Chelsea. This side included Tony

Macedo, Trevor Watson, Derek

Lampe, Brian O’Connell and Tony

Barton, all of

whom appeared

in Fulham’s first

XI in future years.

They also beat

Brentford in the

Final of the League

Cup that season.

Fulham reached

the FA Youth

Cup Final in 2014

where they lost to

Chelsea on aggregate. The Fulham

side included Moussa Dembélé,

Patrick Roberts, Marek Rodák,

Emerson Hyndman and George

Williams.

L

EEDS CITY.

the Football League in 1919 due to
