the one closest to the center, labeled “A”, is the longest; the outer
microtubules, labeled “C” are the shortest; and the middle one, with
intermediate length, is labeled “B”. Figures 3 and 4 provide sketches

A closer look at an individual microtubule shows that it is com
posed of longitudinal strands (or “filaments”) consisting of alternating
