EVENTS IN NOVEMBER 2016
THE THREE
TENORS: OPERA
ARIAS, NAPLES
AND SONGS
4 November
Rome
Now that Luciano
Pavarotti is no longer
with us, we’ll never
again be able to catch
the legendary Three
Tenors live in concert.
But the next best thing
comes in the shape of
this tribute concert
brought to you by the
Opera and Lirica Music
Academy. St Paul’s
Within The Walls will
provide the atmospheric
backdrop to a wonderful
concert performed
by three exceptional
voices, backed up by
a string quartet and a
piano. A treat indeed.

FLORENCE ART
AND RESTORATION
FAIR
9-11 November
Florence
Of course, Florence
is a treasure trove of
cultural delights, but for
three days in November,
the artsy crowd will
turn their attention
specifi cally to the
Cenacolo di Santa Croce
(9th) and the Fortezza
da Basso (10th & 11th),
which will provide the
setting for a programme
of art exhibitions and
related discussions.
This year, there will also
be a special exhibition
commemorating 50
years since the Florence
fl ood, which ravaged the
city back in 1966.
FIERACAVALLI
10-13 November
Verona
Horse shows don’t come
much bigger than this
annual spectacular at
the Veronafi ere – now
in its 118th year. The
phrase ‘something for
everyone’ is bandied
about a lot these
days, but in this case
it couldn’t be more
appropriate. People
come from all over
the world to absorb a
breathtaking range of
equestrian activities,
from competitions
to trade stalls, talks
to horse sculptures.
Indeed, with so much to
see and do, you’d better
giddy-up if you want to
get around all of it!

PISA BOOK
FESTIVAL
11-13 November
Pisa
For sheer escapism,
nothing beats a good
book – and whether
you prefer Rowling
or Rankin, Dickens or
Dostoyevsky, you’re
sure to fi nd plenty
to enthral you at this
annual literary event.
For three days, the Pisa
Congress Centre will
be transformed into a
vast bookshop lined
with new and dusty
tomes, covering just
about every topic. And
once you’ve stocked
your basket, you can
meet the minds behind
some of your favourite
stories, via a series
of author talks and
workshops. http://www.pisa

MERANO WINE
FESTIVAL
4-8 November
Merano
If we had to describe
our dream holiday,
a spa break with
plentiful wine would
just about cover it.
And the opportunity
to meet those criteria
comes courtesy of this
annual event. Merano, in
picture-postcard South
Tyrol, is renowned for its
luxurious spa resorts,
which will provide
the perfect base for
venturing to the town’s
art-nouveau Kurhaus
for fi ve days of wine-
related cheer. Around
500 vintners and 100
food producers will be
on hand to refresh and
enlighten you. http://www.

ALL SAINTS DAY
1 November
Nationwide
Have you been meaning
to visit a museum or
art gallery but keep
getting distracted by
the lure of the shopping
mall? Well, today is
your chance to remedy
that. One of the Catholic
Church’s most revered
celebrations, All Saints’
Day is a national holiday
in Italy, so all the shops
will be closed, but
many arts and culture
establishments will be
open as usual.
