Assemble Blocks 1–3



  1. Referring to Diagram 12, lay out
    a solid light yellow 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square, two
    light turquoise triangle-squares, and
    a solid white 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square in two
    rows. Sew together pieces in rows;
    join rows to make a light yellow
    corner unit. The unit should be 4^1 ⁄ 2 "
    square including seam allowances.
    Repeat to make 28 light yellow
    corner units total.

  2. Using solid dark yellow 2^1 ⁄ 2 "
    squares instead of solid light yellow,
    repeat Step 1 to make 36 dark yellow
    corner units (Diagram 13).

  3. Referring to Diagram 14, sew
    together one each of Flying Geese A
    and B units to make a side unit. The
    unit should be 4^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
    seam allowances. Repeat to make 64
    side units total.

  4. Lay out three light yellow corner
    units, one dark yellow corner unit,
    four side units, and a solid light
    yellow 4^1 ⁄ 2 " square in three rows
    (Diagram 15). Sew together pieces
    in rows. Join rows to make Block 1.
    The block should be 12^1 ⁄ 2 " square
    including seam allowances. Repeat to
    make four total of Block 1.
    5. Using two light yellow corner
    units and two dark yellow corner
    units, repeat Step 4 to make Block 2
    (Diagram 16). Repeat to make eight
    total of Block 2.
    6. Using four dark yellow corner
    units, repeat Step 4 to make Block 3
    (Diagram 17). Repeat to make four
    total of Block 3.


Assemble Blocks 4–6


  1. Referring to Diagram 18, lay out
    four solid dark orange 2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares,
    four Flying Geese E units, and one
    solid dark coral 4^1 ⁄ 2 " square. Sew
    together pieces in rows. Join rows
    to make Block 4. The block should
    be 8^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
    allowances. Repeat to make nine
    total of Block 4.

  2. Sew together a Flying Geese
    G unit and a solid white 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 41 ⁄ 2 "
    rectangle to make a top unit
    (Diagram 19). The unit should
    be 4^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
    allowances. Repeat to make 12 top
    units total.

  3. Sew together two Flying Geese
    C units to make a yellow center
    unit (Diagram 20). The unit should
    be 4^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
    allowances. Repeat to make 12
    yellow center units total.
