Australian 4WD Action – August 2019

If you want a fair-dinkum test for your 4WD, there is no better
place to go. Places like the Glasshouse, Coffs and Yalwal might
get most of the attention in magazines and on the internet, but
between Forster and Port Macquarie is home to some of the lesser
known tough tracks.

Out the back of Wauchope, head to Bago and get yourself up on
those cliff faces. I’d rather drive a Nissan than be around heights,
but there is something very special about parking your rig on the edge
of the Bago cliffs and looking out over that amazing view. Heights
aren’t really for me, but even I can say it was a highlight of the trip.

Get yourself some decent off-road mapping and go exploring
around this mountain range. I reckon we only uncovered a third of
what is on offer in this amazing place. The place is begging to be
explored.

Even if you live in Sydney or Brisbane, the area around Port is
smack bang in the middle of them. A good four-hour drive will
see you lifting a wheel around this area. So, I reckon it’s the perfect
destination for a long weekend. Don’t just hit the same tracks every
weekend, get out there and explore and take some tracks that are
less travelled, you won’t regret it.

If you are looking for the best bush to beach camping, then this
part of the Mid North Coast has got to be right up there on your off
road bucket list. The great news is that this is a very doable location
and something you can hit up for a long weekend if you live anywhere
on the NSW or SE QLD coast. Your options are really limitless and you
can have the best of bush and beach driving and camping.
