fraction of their original fighting
force. But here is what made the day
for us and made us proud to be part
of this event, although the Tans knew
on seeing such a small force they
had probably won this encounter, a
number of Tan players opted to swap
sides for the remaining afternoon
missions in order not to spoil it for
everybody that remained. In true
community spirit the Tans came to
the aid of the Green commander to
ensure he still had a fight to give
and continue the fight with pride,
to which they did with the heads
of the remaining Green team held
high. Nevertheless the Tans put on a
show going up against the remaining
hardcore Green fighters and
temporary allies of the Tans.
It turned out to be a most
enjoyable afternoon of play from
both sides and even the hardened
players that remained all agreed
much fun was had by all.
FINAL THOUGHTS...
Overall we thought the weekend was
a huge success with the expected
hiccups that come with a new
unplayed site. Sharon, Paul and
Richard have done an amazing job
here and along with Dave the head
marshal and the team leaders and
their 2IC’s put a lot of hard work in to
produce this event.
The firefights were awesome to
watch and came thick and fast and in
every direction possible.
Players were polite and energetic
play seemed to compliment the
game plan. One thing that was
apparent though was a problem
in communication, with some
players either not understanding
or complying with the rules. I’m
sure that this isn’t exclusive to the
Ai500, but it’s a tough challenge to
overcome, especially if you have to
make decisions on-the-fly or it all
falls on deaf ears.
The biggest overall mistake made
by the staff was thinking that all
the players would abide to the
rules and play fair, we are certainly
not tarring anyone with this brush
as most abided by the rules and
played fairly but there were (and
will always be) a few players that
do not see the whole picture and
decide to play by their own rules
no matter what you do and this,
as you all know, can spread like
wildfire throughout the ranks. This
does mean that instead of marshals
actually marshalling the gameplay
and direction the weekend should
be taking where needed, they end
up in the middle of petty squabbles
and repeating the rules. This is
Airsoft and in the case of the Ai500
games; if a white little pellet hits
you then you either require a medic
or you’re on your way back to your
respawn. That’s it.
