The Canadian Warplane Heritage
Museum in Hamilton, Ontario, was
visited by Richard G Wilsher in his DHC
T.10 Chipmunk WP833 on the weekend
of June 9 and 10. Richard is fl ying
the aircraft around North America to
celebrate the RAF’s centenary.
Richard, who has owned the
1952-built Chipmunk since 2010,
fl ew WP833 from his home base in
California to the Smithsonian’s Udvar
Hazy Center in Virginia for April’s
Great British Fly-In before moving on
to Canada. As we went to press he
was also scheduled to fl y to Oshkosh,
Wisconsin for July’s AirVenture event.
On June 9, the museum organised
an air-to-air photography shoot
alongside its own Chipmunk, the
former Royal Canadian Air Force
18035, fl own by Rick Rickards. The
camera ship was the attraction’s
Fairchild Cornell fl own by Tery Lebel.
The next day Richard and Rick fl ew
to Downsview, where DHC produced
over 200 Chipmunks in the 1940s

Chipmunk visits Canada

The Prairie Aviation Museum in
Bloomington, Illinois is carrying out
repair and maintenance work on
Grumman F-14D Tomcat 161163
‘AJ-205’, and plans to give it a new
coat of paint.
The swing-wing jet was inducted
into US Navy service as an F-14A in
January 1981, initially fl ying with
VF-143. It went on to serve with
several other units, before being
upgraded to F-14D standard in 1991.
Four further postings followed
before it arrived with VF-213, its fi nal
operator, in October 2000. A large
crowd witnessed its fi nal landing at
Bloomington in April 2016 following
its withdrawal from military service.
Volunteers at the museum are also
working on Northrop T-38A Talon
60-549, which has been at
Bloomington on permanent loan
from Dayton, Ohio’s National Museum
of the USAF since 1993. The jet fi rst
fl ew with the USAF in early 1961,
serving with units at Randolph
in Texas, Tyndall in Florida and
Davis-Monthan in Arizona. It ended
its military days as an instructional
airframe at Chanute, Illinois, before
being transferred to the museum.

Museum unveils Spitfi re-themed artworks
A new Spitfi re-inspired sculpture has been unveiled at the Potteries Museum in Hanley, Staffordshire. The full-scale artistic rendition was built by
apprentices of Newcastle-under-Lyme’s KMF Precision Sheet Metal company, and is based on a 1:6 scale paper version by artist Suhail Shaikh which

Argentine FMA Pucará
to be displayed as monument
FMA IA 58 Pucará A-577 is to be unveiled in the Argentine town of Campana, within the
province of Buenos Aires. Although the type remains in service, several of the country’s
older airframes are now being used as ‘gate guardians’ or being allocated to museums.
