WOODTURNING
For the pole lathe, two
A-frames are joined by parallel
planks (the lathe bed), in which
poppets (head and tailstocks)
are inserted. A cord runs from
the foot treadle around the
workpiece and then up to an
elestic cord or sapling ‘pole’.
The billet on the right is
axed out and refined on the
shavehorse (left) before turning
on the lathe. All together, a
basic bodger’s setup.
