A
leisurely two hour drive lay
ahead of us from Hessisch
Oldendorf and after saying our
goodbyes to the guys who were
heading back to the UK, we hit the
autobahn towards our home for the
next few days, the Campingplatz am
Allersee in Wolfsburg (www.camping-
allersee.de).
If you are ever planning a road trip
to Wolfsburg and you are thinking
of camping, then this site must be
the one to go for. Situated next the
Volkswagen Arena home ground
of VFL Wolfsburg (who play in the
Bundesliga, the top tier of the German
football league) and a stones throw
away from the Autostadt, VW HQ and
the main train station, it literally is
slap bang in Volkswagen exploration
territory. At a very reasonable €7,50
per night for a camping plot (Camper,
caravan, tent, car) and only an
additional €3,50 for electric hook up,
its cheaper than your average UK site
by a good chunk. Unsurprisingly then,
when we arrived to check into the
campsite, there were loads of other
Brits and their VWs who had also
travelled to Wolfsburg from Hessisch
for a few days before heading over to
EBI (European Bug In) in Chimay the
following weekend.
With our event shelter set up,
showers had by all and our evening
meal cooking away, we had a chilled
night reminiscing about the fun
we’d had and all cool stuff we had
seen over the past few days. That
evening over a beer we spoke with
a good friend of ours called Steve
Hall who was also staying at the
campsite, about the possibility of
being able to join in with a special
tour of the Wolfsburg factory that
was happening the next day. Some
friends of his had been in touch with
the head of marketing at Volkswagen
and had arranged for a visiting group
to have unprecedented access to
